We are supporting a dedicated Special School in Watford specialising in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a variety of additional needs. Our school provides a nurturing, structured, and inclusive environment where students can thrive both academically and personally. Role Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and committed Class Teacher to join our team. You will work with students across a range of ages and abilities, delivering a broad curriculum tailored to the specific needs of children with autism. As a Class Teacher, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and engaging learning environment that supports each child’s unique learning journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that cater to the needs of students with autism.
  • Use autism-friendly teaching strategies, such as structured routines, visual aids, and sensory support.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including support staff, therapists, and parents, to create and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback and adapting your teaching approaches as necessary.
  • Foster a calm, inclusive classroom environment that minimises anxiety and promotes positive behaviour.
  • Work in partnership with families and carers to ensure consistency and holistic support for students.
  • Stay up to date with best practices in SEND education through professional development opportunities.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other special educational needs.
  • A strong understanding of autism and strategies for supporting students with sensory and communication needs.
  • Ability to differentiate lessons to meet a range of abilities and learning styles.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with SEND.

Desirable

  • Additional qualifications in SEND or autism-specific training (e.g., NASENCO, TEACCH, PECS).
  • Experience in using assistive technologies or alternative teaching methods.
  • Knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice and experience working with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
