We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team at a vibrant primary school in London. This role is focused on working with a non-verbal student, helping to support their individual learning needs and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide 1:1 support for a non-verbal student, facilitating communication through tools such as PECS, Makaton, or assistive technology.

- Collaborate with the class teacher and SENDCo to deliver personalized learning strategies and activities.

- Help maintain a calm, positive, and engaging environment, ensuring the well-being of the student in your care.

- Support the development of the student’s social, emotional, and communication skills.

- Monitor and record the student’s progress, contributing to their individual education plan (IEP).

Requirements:

- Previous experience working with a non-verbal student or students with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN) is essential.

- A good understanding of alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton, AAC).

- Ability to build a strong, supportive relationship with the student, promoting independence and confidence.

- Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with children with additional needs.

- Relevant qualifications in SEND support or equivalent experience in a similar role are highly desirable.
