Aspire are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant with expertise in supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a supportive and inclusive educational setting where you will make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with additional needs.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in assisting students with autism in their academic and social development, helping them to overcome challenges and thrive in a structured learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with autism, ensuring they can access learning in a way that meets their needs. Class size ranges from 4 - 10 depending on the needs of the children.
* Assist with the development of social, communication, and sensory strategies to aid student learning and engagement.
* Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to support differentiated teaching.
* Support students in self-regulation and emotional well-being, using de-escalation and positive reinforcement techniques.
* Create a structured and predictable learning environment to support students with SEN in feeling safe and confident.
* Assist with daily routines, including transitions between activities, break times, and personal care if required.
* Foster strong relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure a collaborative approach to learning and development.
* Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to review meetings.

Person Specification:
Essential:
* Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in an educational setting.
* Understanding of autism-specific strategies, such as PECS, Makaton, TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication Handicapped Children), or sensory integration techniques.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Ability to remain patient, empathetic, and calm when supporting students with autism-related challenges.
* A passion for inclusive education and helping children reach their full potential.
Desirable:
* Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
* Training in Team Teach, MAPA (Managing Actual or Potential Aggression), or de-escalation strategies.
* Experience with EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans) and their implementation.
* A background in Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) support or Occupational Therapy techniques for ASD learners.
* Use visual aids, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Makaton, and other assistive communication methods as needed.
