Summary

It is an exciting and important time to join the Powis Castle team. You’ll support a major project at Powis Castle to transform how we present the South Asia collection. This is a large and rich collection of South Asian material, including art, courtly objects and religious statuary.

This project is at an early point in the planning process and at a crucial point for engagement with people from the South Asian community to help influence how we progress.

As an organisation we wish to end unequal access; with this in mind we are looking for someone who is committed to engagement, community involvement and consultation, skilled in seeking out groups with different interests around a common theme - and giving them the opportunity to have their voices heard. You’ll lead on enabling others to influence what we say about these wonderful objects, and how we say it. Your enthusiasm and skills as an inspirational storyteller will connect people with places.

Internally this role is known as Senior Volunteering & Community Manager

Dyma amser cyffrous a phwysig i ymuno a thîm Castell Powis. Byddwch yn cefnogi prosiect sylweddol yng Nghastell Powis i drawsnewid sut rydym yn cyflwyno casgliad De Asia. Mae hwn yn gasgliad mawr a chyfoethog o ddeunydd o Dde Asia, gan gynnwys celf, eitemau o’r llysoedd a cherfluniaeth grefyddol.

Mae’r prosiect hwn ar ddechrau’r broses gynllunio a phwynt tyngedfennol o ran ymgysylltu â phobl o gymuned De Asia i helpu i ddylanwadu ar y ffordd yr ydym ni’n symud ymlaen.

Fel sefydliad rydym yn dymuno rhoi diwedd ar fynediad anghyfartal; gyda hyn mewn golwg, rydym yn chwilio am rywun sydd yn ymroddedig i waith ymgysylltu, cyfranogiad ac ymgynghori cymunedol, yn hyfedr wrth ddod o hyd i grwpiau gyda diddordebau gwahanol o gwmpas thema gyffredin - a rhoi’r cyfle iddyn nhw gael lleisio’u barn. Byddwch yn arwain ar alluogi eraill i ddylanwadu ar yr hyn yr ydym yn ei ddweud am yr eitemau rhyfeddol hyn, a’n ffordd o ddweud hynny. Bydd eich brwdfrydedd a’ch sgiliau wrth adrodd straeon yn ysbrydoli ac yn cysylltu â phobl a lleoedd.

What it's like to work here

Working at Powis means joining an expert team which is pushing the boundaries in storytelling, ambitious to change how we do things and pushing high standards even higher. Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll be a core part of the project and be integrated with operational teams. There is also the opportunity to connect with the wider internal volunteer and community networks across Wales and the wider organisation.

Your contractual location will be Powis Castle. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll also want you to travel to meet external stakeholders in the places they live or work. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a Powis for approximately half of your working week.

Mae gweithio yng Nghastell Powis yn golygu ymuno â thîm arbenigol sy’n gwthio’r ffiniau wrth adrodd straeon, yn frwdfrydig am newid y ffordd yr ydym yn gwneud pethau a chodi safonau uchel yn uwch fyth. Gan adrodd i’r Rheolwr Cyffredinol, byddwch yn rhan greiddiol o'r prosiectau ac yn rhan annatod o’r timau gweithredol. Bydd cyfle hefyd i chi gysylltu â'r rhwydweithiau cymunedol a gwirfoddol mewnol ehangach ar hyd a lled Cymru a'r sefydliad yn ehangach.

Eich safle gwaith cytundebol fydd Castell Powis. Mae ein polisi gweithio hybrid yn golygu y gallwch gydbwyso gweithio yn y swyddfa a gartref gydag ymweliadau safle a chyfarfodydd yn lleoliadau eraill yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol. Byddwn hefyd am i chi deithio i gwrdd â rhanddeiliaid allanol yn y lleoedd maent yn byw neu’n gweithio. Byddwn yn trafod hyn yn fanylach yn y cyfweliad, ond dylech ddisgwyl gweithio yng Nghastell Powis am oddeutu hanner eich wythnos waith.

What you'll be doing

We know that visitors want to learn more and engage more deeply. We want to celebrate diversity and want more visitors to have a better experience and come away inspired by, connected with, and knowledgeable about the South Asian collection.

It is our ambition to explore the context and meaning of these objects with many different community representatives and bring new stories and perspectives to the fore, building deeper and wider connections with new audiences and communities across Wales, nationally and internationally. This will be through a targeted programme of engaging activity, that you’ll take a key role in designing and delivering; initially as a pilot around the return and redisplay of one item, the tiger head finial. During the pilot our focus will be three key new audiences; people with South Asian Heritage and connections, local young people and children and international museum and academic professionals

You’ll evaluate the impact of this activity and the learning from this will shape a larger project in which, over the next 3 to 5 years, we will build community networks and will install a high quality, flexible and accessible display for the whole collection. This will enable engagement with new communities, will inspire co-curation and improve access resulting in improved visitor satisfaction and increased audience dwell time.

Gwyddwn fod ymwelwyr yn dymuno dysgu mwy a chysylltu’n ddyfnach. Hoffem ddathlu amrywiaeth a gweld mwy o ymwelwyr yn cael profiad gwell a chael eu hysbrydoli, teimlo cysylltiad, a chael gwybod mwy am gasgliad De Asia.

Ein huchelgais yw archwilio cyd-destun ac ystyr yr eitemau hyn gyda llawer o wahanol gynrychiolwyr cymunedol a dod â straeon a safbwyntiau newydd i’r amlwg, gan feithrin cysylltiadau dyfnach ac ehangach â chynulleidfaoedd a chymunedau newydd ar hyd a lled Cymru, yn genedlaethol ac yn rhyngwladol. Bydd hyn yn cael ei gyflawni trwy raglen o weithgareddau difyr wedi’i thargedu, y byddwch yn chwarae rhan allweddol yn ei dyluniad a’i chyflwyniad; fel rhaglen beilot i ddechrau ynghylch dychwelyd ac ail-arddangos un eitem, ffinial pen teigr. Yn ystod y peilot, ein ffocws fydd tair cynulleidfa newydd allweddol; pobl o dras De Asiaidd neu â chysylltiad â De Asia, pobl ifanc a phlant lleol, a gweithwyr proffesiynol academaidd ac o amgueddfeydd.

Byddwch yn gwerthuso effaith y gweithgarwch hwn a bydd yr hyn a ddysgir yn siapio prosiect mwy o faint, lle byddwn, dros y 3 i 5 mlynedd nesaf, yn datblygu rhwydweithiau cymunedol ac yn gosod arddangosfa o s
