  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar design Engineering position
  • Proficient using CATIA V5 software, recognised CATIA training would be a distinct advantage
  • Good theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge of core principles and tight tolerances
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Familiarity with tooling manufacturing processes from design through release of tooling to production including tooling validation process

The Tooling Design Engineer role will involve:

  • Using CATIA V5 for concept design from component models, creating models using CATIA V5 for the manufacture of tooling
  • Understanding of tooling suites used in the complete manufacturing cycle of components including press tools trim /drill fixtures, inspection fixtures etc.
  • Managing all aspects of tooling projects from RFQ through to release of tooling to production including raising relevant purchase orders for tooling suppliers, managing incoming certification and ensuring all individual tooling project plans are delivered on time
  • Creating a tooling revenue forecast for the finance department and reporting on a weekly basis ensuring all revenue targets are fully understood and achieved
  • Liaising with tooling manufacturers to ensure delivery target are being achieved
  • Liaising with all internal stakeholders ensuring all issues are communicated efficiently and mitigated to keep tooling project on plan

Person Specification

  • HNC /HND /Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar work-based experience
  • Degree educated in an engineering discipline or minimum 3 years' experience as a Tool Design Engineer
  • Fully conversant with CATIA V5 software
  • Able to reverse engineer tooling models from component models (CATIA)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working in tooling design

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Aerospace Quality Management Systems
  • Manufacturing engineering processes
