Alecto Recruitment are partnering with a market leader within the odour and emissions sector who are actively looking for a Technical Manager to join their growing team. The successful candidate will ideally have a technical sales background in the Anaerobic Digestion or Energy from Waste sector.

Primary Responsibilities - Technical Manager:

New Business Development (BD) Technical Support:

  • Participate in every new business development call for projects over 300k (approximately 3 calls per week, each lasting 30 minutes).
  • Be knowledgeable about the capabilities of various equipment and provide high-level solutions.
  • Willing to undertake site visits across the UK and EU, approximately 4 days per month.

Sales Technical Support:

  • Assist the sales team throughout each project by providing technical specifications.
  • Offer expertise in project costings, thoroughly understanding cost structures, and confirming key USPs.
  • Have a strong grasp of competitors' solutions and be able to highlight our advantages.
  • Provide support for value engineering, research and development (R&D) when required.
  • Create plant layout drawings and verify quote details and specifications for accuracy.
  • Aid in clarifying high-level wiring diagrams and other customer-related interfaces.
  • Have a solid understanding of plant service and maintenance to answer customer inquiries, including cost considerations.
  • Conduct CAPEX (capital expenditure) and OPEX (operational expenditure) studies.
  • Offer consultative support, ensuring that our systems remain central to the solution.
  • Work on plant space solutions in agreement with NPD (New Product Development) for any deviations from the standard range.
  • Be knowledgeable in olfactometry and ventilation effectiveness and be able to communicate these concepts clearly.
  • Establish a knowledge base for team training and assist in training the sales team.
  • Handle other technical tasks as required.

Specification Support:

  • Ensure that the specifications match the capabilities of our equipment, flagging any misalignments and offering solutions.
  • Create and negotiate derogation schedules and research costs when necessary.
  • Understand and take responsibility for performance guarantees.
  • Verify testing kits, associated costs, and other control requirements, confirming when PLC is needed.
  • Attend design review meetings to ensure alignment.

Management:

  • Coordinate project development requirements, holding the team accountable for deadlines.
  • Regularly communicate with the technical design engineer to address design issues and assist in troubleshooting.
  • Provide frequent updates to the MD on design challenges and resource needs.
  • Manage the team, including conducting regular reviews and overseeing the team's annual budget.

Key Role Requirements:

  • Personable, professional, and highly articulate.
  • Essential: Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or similar Engineering discipline.
  • Strong technical aptitude with a problem-solving approach.
  • Previous experience as a Technical or Sales Director/Manager in the Anaerobic Digestion or Energy from Waste sectors is highly desirable.
  • Ability to adapt customer requirements to fit within our systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of our systems and their operation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to process complex information.
  • Proven management experience in building and leading a team within a technical engineering industry.
  • Spend 4 weeks working with the production line, commissioning, and installation team to gain hands-on experience
