Job Description

Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting on behalf of a charity in Hertfordshire for a Payroll Officer to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will deliver a confidential, accurate, professional, and effective payroll service within agreed timelines. Ensuring compliance with internal policies, procedures, statutory regulations, and third-party requirements.

Main Responsibilities

  • Database Management: Update eHR/payroll database for salary and payroll changes, statutory updates, and review staff expense claims to ensure timely and accurate payments.
  • Statutory Processing: Process statutory notifications/payments (e.g., SMP, SSP), voluntary deductions, third-party payments, and occupational entitlements with precision.
  • Pension and Benefits Administration: Administer pension contributions per policies and auto-enrolment legislation; manage third-party payments and the benefits package.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance: Apply internal control procedures, ensure accuracy of payroll changes, resolve significant variations, and ensure compliance with TUPE and related legislation.
  • Communication and Reporting: Provide clear, professional explanations to internal staff and external bodies, and collaborate on generating accurate reports and data analysis.

Candidate Criteria

  • Proven work experience within a financial environment, specifically in payroll administration.
  • Experience of working in a payroll environment within a large organisation, preferably within the public sector.
  • Ability to work methodically and in a structured way to deliver an efficient transactional payroll service.
  • Excellent analytical and numeracy skills with the ability to interpret and summarise complex data.
  • Proficient use of Itrent or Oracle, preferably both.
  • Strong customer service skills with the proven ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, particularly in resolving complaints and other issues.
