The Role

Geography is a very popular subject at our School. All students study Geography until the end of Year 9. There are 15 GCSE classes in Year 10 and Year 11. The number of students opting to study Geography at A Level has significantly increased over the last two years. This is an exceptional opportunity. It will offer the successful candidate a friendly, highly supportive and committed working environment within a culture of success and professional growth. The school offers excellent support for NQTs in their induction year.

The Person

The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom teacher who can inspire and excite students about their learning and possess recent, relevant, teaching and leadership experience. You will have an innovative approach to creating a Geography curriculum that is inclusive to all students and makes good use of ICT. A sound knowledge and understanding of best practice in the accurate assessment of student work is essential.

Purpose of the Post:

To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students and to support a designated curriculum area as appropriate

To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a teacher/ Form Tutor

To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential

To contribute to raising standards of student attainment

To share and support the schools responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth

To fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document

To meet the expectations set out in the Teachers Standards

Qualifications and Experience

Qualified Teacher Status within the relevant subject area.

Experience of teaching all or most of the age range served by the School (11 18).

Well qualified in the appropriate subject area and/or participation in relevant in-service courses and/or further professional study

Skills and Knowledge:

Knowledge of the National Curriculum

Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies

A good understanding of how children learn

Ability to adapt teaching to meet pupils needs

Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils

Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children

Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies

Good ICT skills, particularly using ICT to support learning
