About the Role:

Do you have experience working with children? Are you a nurturing personality keen to work with children with Special Educational Needs? Do you have a basic or advanced understanding or BSL or Makaton?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant secondary school in Brent. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a school environment to support the delivery of engaging and effective lessons by supporting students with special educational needs. This role would involve working 1 to 1 with a child with SEN, and would require someone with a basic or advanced knowledge of Makaton or BSL.

Key Responsibilities as an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers in the preparation and delivery of lessons for the learner.
  • Individual and Group Support: Provide tailored support to a student with special educational needs, both in small groups and on a one-to-one basis, helping them to overcome challenges and achieve their potential.
  • Resource Management: Help to organise resources, ensuring that all are prepared and available for lessons.
  • Student Progress: Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to student assessments.
  • Enrichment Activities: Support the development and delivery of extracurricular activities, such as clubs, workshops, and field trips.

About You:

  • Experience with Special Educational Needs: Either working as a Teaching Assistant, Tutor, Sports Coach, Youth Worker or Support Worker.
  • Hold an understanding of BSL or Makaton
  • Passionate: A strong interest in education and a desire to inspire young people in the field of Maths.
  • Organised: Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Communicative: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and students.
  • Desirable: Previous experience working with young people, either in a teaching, tutoring, or mentoring capacity, would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Location: live within commutable distance of Brent.
  • DBS Check: Hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced Child DBS Check (you can apply for this through Tradewind).
