Clements Grey has engaged with a key client, an R&D Manufacturer of instruments based in West Midlands. Due to succession planning they have an exciting opportunity for a Quality Lead Engineer on a permanent basis.

You will form a crucial part of the Operations team covering all aspects of Quality and H&S associated with a world class manufacturing and service-based facility.

This wide-ranging role focuses on elevating and maintaining the levels of Quality & H&S across the business, whilst also providing support to the Production and Production Engineering teams as well as the wider business to ensure that the on-site provision to the many varied aspects of maintaining the quality of our products through production and in the field.

Within the Quality function:

  • Manage resources to provide the Quality provision to the business as indicated below
  • Develop an audit schedule, manage, and conduct audits, third party, supplier and internal, follow up on audit findings and recommendations.
  • Establish and update internal and supplier KPI’s focus on quality management efficiency and continuous improvement activities, closely aligned with the Customer Facing Metrics where appropriate.
  • Provide support when dealing with serial defects promptly ensuring production is not affected by prioritising off line screening of parts, stock in other warehouses as well as setting necessary flags for stock in transit.
  • Using the available resource within the wider team to complete the necessary actions needed to control and improve Supplier performance using appropriate methodologies i.e. 8d, Six Sigma.
  • Analyse Warranty Returns providing necessary feedback to Production and Service also ensuring Customers receive prompt feedback and closure.
  • Monitor and ensure defective parts are actioned and transacted in an efficient timely manner using the Return Purchase Order or Part Disposal Processes.
  • Ensure that timely and effective actions is undertaken by appropriate staff to obtain and maintain compliance within the quality system.
  • Assist and resolve any appropriate quality problems as they arise from customers complaints, supplier non-conformance, component, and product testing.
  • Working with the Production support team, identifying and implementing opportunities to improve the FTPR, On time delivery and overall quality of the product.
  • Play an active role supporting new product introduction, ensuring adherence to the supplier selection process and the compiling and control of the PPAP submissions process.
  • Review processes across the business with a view to simplifying and improving efficiency by collaborating cross-functionally and in alignment with methodology.
  • Conduct and carry out Gap Analysis.
  • Liaising with Customer Services, Commercial and Service Support to ensure that quality concerns and end customer feedback is collected, analysed and where necessary actioned for improvement by the Quality Dept with the appropriate departments

Competencies & Key Skills

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of 9001 management system, Health and Safety management system (NEBOSH certified) or working towards.
  • Possess strong leadership qualities needed to manage quality systems and H & S policies.
  • Experience in the use of PDM/ERP systems (Smarteam/D365 an advantage)
  • Computer literate (preferably a confident user of Microsoft Excel, Access & VB)
