Specialist 1:1 Teaching Assistant (SEND & Behaviour Support)

At Team Educate we are working closely with a primary school in the Birmingham area who are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistants to provide dedicated support for a primary-aged child with special educational needs and challenging behaviour.

The role is full time Monday to Friday, with an ideal start date in April 2025 until the end of the school year in July. There is also a high chance of continued employment after the school holidays into the new school year in September. As a specialist teaching assistant, your role will be on a 1:1 basis, however you will be supported throughout the role by senior members of staff and the school’s leadership team. Free training will also be provided prior to starting the role.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support for a child with SEND, adapting teaching and learning strategies to meet their specific needs.
  • Implement and follow EHCP targets and behaviour management strategies under the guidance of the SENCO and class teacher.
  • Use positive behaviour management techniques to support emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
  • Develop a strong, trusting relationship with the child to encourage confidence and independence.
  • Create a calm, structured, and inclusive environment that promotes positive learning experiences.

Required Experience:

  • Previous experience (preferably 2+ years) supporting children with SEN and challenging behaviour, ideally in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, Speech & Language Difficulties, and SEMH needs.
  • Strong behaviour management skills with a patient and empathetic approach.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, NVQ, or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.

The Role:

  • Position: Specialist SEND teaching assistant
  • Duration: Full Time (Monday to Friday 08.30- 15.30 ) Term time only
  • Pay Rate: £95-£105 per day
  • Duration: April 2025- July 2025 (with option to extend)
