We are recruiting for a Waste Manager, whose responsibility will be to manage the waste across the processes we operate.
Duties will involve:
* Ensure all packaged process waste, including contaminated containers are stored, managed and disposed of in accordance with UK legislation and EA requirements
* Liaise with QC on analysis of waste and interpret results of waste streams to ensure accuracy of labelling and documentation to determine the most cost-effective waste disposal route
* Liaise with Research and Development in the discussion of waste streams being generated for new products/projects and the reduction in waste for current processes
* Create safety data sheets for waste streams as required in EXESS (Lisam).
* Continually review offsite waste disposal companies to ensure they meet all aspects of the 'Duty of Care' regulations
* Arrange the preparation of waste streams and untreated containers for off-site disposal, to minimise haulage costs, maximise volume and minimise cost
* Ensure compliance with Packaging Waste and Dangerous Goods Transport regulations, consulting our DGSA, as required.
* Produce quarterly waste returns and submit to the Environment Agency
* Manage the quarterly budgets to accommodate off-site waste disposal
* Manage on-site solvent incineration
* Arrange pre-sample acceptance and consignment notes for externally received solvent waste
* Actively participate in activities/audits to maintain the company EMS (ISO14001) and IPPC authorisation
Skills required
* Ability to communicate with multiple departments at all levels
* Ability to prioritise and manage conflicting workload demands
* Ability to use excel, word, and PowerPoint to an excellent level
Education, training and experience
Essential
* BSc Chemistry degree
* Knowledge of Duty of Care Regulations
* At least 2 years' experience in a waste management or chemical industry
Desirable
* CIWM (Chartered Institute of Waste Management) endorsed qualifications and/ or working towards chartered status
* Membership of WAMITAB (Waste Management Industry Training & Advisory Board)
Salary dependant on experience. Hours of work are 8.45 am - 4.30 pm on site, a 36.25 hour week. 25 days holiday (plus all UK bank holidays), free life assurance cover and generous paid sick scheme (both after a qualifying period).
