Job Vacancy - Mechanical Engineering Manager

The company is located in West Bromwich in the West Midlands. They are specialists in organo-sulphur synthesis and high-pressure hydrogenation supplying organic chemistry services to a global market in quantities from grams to multi-tonnes. We manufacture intermediates for the Pharmaceutical, Agrochemical and Speciality Chemical industries as well as many others and our team of chemists are experts in custom synthesis, contract manufacture and process optimisation.

A vacancy has arisen to join the Engineering Department. This is an excellent opportunity to work as part of a highly skilled Engineering team within a lower tier COMAH facility. The successful candidate will be an experienced, qualified Mechanical Engineer/Manager and we are looking for an immediate start.

The ideal candidate will have the following capability/experience listed below: -

  • Overall responsibility for the management of the Mechanical Engineering & Civil Engineering departments which includes 25 staff, and contractors as and when required.
  • Mechanical maintenance dept management.
  • Mechanical project engineering management experience within an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Fluent in Computerised Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Excellent personnel management skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Safety, Health & Environmental - To maintain and promote a safe operating culture within the department ensuring that in all its aspects of installation and maintenance it operates to the highest levels of safety and meets all legal and statutory requirements, company rules and procedures.
  • Liaison at all levels inside the company. Outside contacts typically include suppliers, contractors and agencies such as the HSE & insurance inspectors.

Qualifications/Training

  • A Mechanical Engineering HNC as a minimum, ideally a Mech Eng degree.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience within an industrial manufacturing environment in a Mechanical Engineering role, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • The job requires a flexible attitude to deal with multiple complex jobs simultaneously to meet the required changes in operational priorities.

The salary is negotiable. 25 days paid holiday (and all UK Bank Holidays), a 40-hour working week, ½ hr lunch, Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm, paid sick scheme, free life assurance and access to a stakeholder pension scheme, based in West Bromwich, West Midlands.
