Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Location - Smethwick
The ideal candidate would have a strong mechanical engineering background, be an effective team member with the capability to work under their own initiative, Dependable and trustworthy. Must be able to work within health and safety standards. Be able to conduct repairs and planned maintenance tasks, be able to use a computer or mobile based maintenance management system. They must be dynamic and experienced enough to have a good understanding of machinery and be able to logically diagnose and find faults. Someone who has an attention to detail, be able to carry out mechanical repairs competently and safely. Someone who will get involved with continuous improvement projects, not afraid to get dirty, ready to support other engineers as and when required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work to a high workmanship standard.
- Maintain all plant equipment to standards expected.
- Completion of preventative maintenance tasks.
- Involvement in project work like the installation and relocating of new and existing equipment.
- Ensure safe working practices are always adhered to.
- Record and document work completed using PC/Mobile based maintenance software.
- To occasionally work across multi-site locations (local).
- To be able to work unsupervised or as part of a team and follow procedures as required.
- To work shift patterns as required.
- Be Dependable, trustworthy with an excellent time & attendance record.
Role Requirements
- 5+ year's experience working as a mechanical maintenance engineer/fitter within the steel industry
- Thorough understanding of mechanical fitting and mechanical maintenance practices is essential.
- Experience in the maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, with the ability to fault find, diagnose, and rectify problems.
- High level of attention to detail and understanding of machine processes.
- A strong understanding of safe systems of work.
- The ability to work safely under own supervision or as part of a team.
- Competent to use a CMMS on PC/Mobile
Desired Skills
- Experience of power press maintenance & repairs
- Experience repairing & Maintaining sheet metal working machinery (Guillotines. Press-brakes, rolling mills)
- Machining & fabricating skills (lathe, milling, drilling, burning grinding, welding)
