Janco Recruitmentare currently recruiting for aTrainee Estimator /Quantity Surveyoron behalf of their clients based inWest Bromwich.

An excellent remuneration package is available for the suitable candidate with a salary between 25,000pa - 35,000pa experience dependant.

Trainee Estimator duties;

  • To work closely with Estimators to pick up the skills required to provide estimates for tenders/enquiries.
  • Acquire the skills to compile estimates for projects/tenders as per agreed format.
  • Acquire the skills to identify and detail materials necessary to achieve the agreed scope of works.
  • Acquire the skills to produce accurate tender analysis for joinery / production elements when required.

Quantity Surveyor duties;

  • Analyse tenders and job specifications to ensure all required information for calculating costs is included. Communicate with clients, architects, consultants and/ or contracts team for clarification as required.
  • Calculate final figure for the estimated cost, supplemented by adjustments for overheads and profit, presenting a tender price.
  • Predict the likely progress rate and completion rate of the project bearing in mind sub-contract arrangements.
  • Carry out negotiations with sub-contract trades for the achievement of the best cost to value.
  • Calculate total costs for both proposed and actual jobs to include comparison of quantities and alternative production methods.
  • Refine specifications to provide for better production, lower costs, and better suitability to meet job requirements.
  • Award orders in agreement with contracts team and purchasing manager based on time required, price and quality of work.
  • Where necessary survey sites to ensure familiarity with the work being carried out and the environment.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with third party consultants, architects, building control, sub-contractors etc.
  • Refine specifications to provide for lower costs, and better suitability to meet job requirements.
  • Produce all cost information, sub-contract quotations, labour analysis for handover to the Contracts Manager
  • Monitor costs through the use of computers to improve the accuracy of future pricing.
  • Attending training when required.

Previous experience within a similar role or a relevant qualificationis advantageous.
