We’re supporting our client, a leading global manufacturer based in West Drayton, who are looking for a Tooling Training Manager to join their growing team. The successful Tooling Training Manager will have practical experience in toolmaking or engineering, as well as a relevant Engineering qualification.

Position Overview: As a Tooling Training Manager, you'll be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of the company’s Tooling Academy. This includes identifying training needs, working with external partners to develop a comprehensive, levelled training standard/curriculum, documenting training plans, and ensuring the effective delivery of training programmes to a high and consistent standard, improving employee performance and productivity and building a sustainable pipeline of skilled Toolmakers for the future.

Responsibilities for Tooling Training Manager:

  • Assess Training Needs: Work with external partners to conduct thorough skills gap analyses within the toolmaking workforce through job analysis, knowledge and skills assessments and consultations with managers.
  • Develop Training Programmes: Design and develop training curricula, programmes, workshops, and materials tailored to the specific needs of toolmaking processes and technologies with a focus on accelerating development through experiential learning.
  • Implement Training: Coordinate and deliver training to toolmakers and apprentices, ensuring training is engaging and effective, and assess competence against consistent and agreed standards. Identify and engage third-party providers for training which cannot be delivered internally.
  • Evaluate Effectiveness: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training, making necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
  • Budget Management: Manage the training budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficient use of resources.
  • Compliance: Ensure all training programmes comply with relevant policies, laws, regulations and audit requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest training methods and techniques, incorporating them into training.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other  professionals and managers to address specific training needs and develop strategies that align with overall business objectives.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor employee performance and response to training, providing feedback and support, and escalating as needed.

About You:

  • A relevant Engineering qualification is essential.
  • The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS) is desirable.
  • The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement or Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (or equivalent e.g. D32/33, A1/A2) is desirable.
  • Practical experience in toolmaking or engineering.
  • Experience of organising, designing and delivering training, preferably in the manufacturing or toolmaking industry.
  • Analytical: Strong analytical skills to assess training needs and evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt and adjust to meet the evolving needs of the organisation.
  • Interpersonal: Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with employees and key stakeholders at all levels.
  • Learning & Development: Strong understanding of learning and development methods, ability to develop and deliver training and assess competence to meet technical professional standards.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead and inspire others.
  • Organisational: Ability to plan, develop and deliver at pace, ensuring key stakeholders are updated as required.
  • Practical Engineering Hand Skills: for marking measuring, cutting, filing and polishing.
  • Manual Machining Skills - turning, milling, drilling and grinding.
