The Role:As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting students with a range of special educational needs, helping them engage with the curriculum and overcome barriers to learning. You will work closely with teachers and other professionals to ensure students receive tailored support that meets their individual needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualised Support: Provide one-on-one and group support for students with SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Curriculum Assistance: Help students access the curriculum by breaking down tasks and providing guidance to ensure understanding.
  • Behavioural Support: Implement behaviour management strategies to create a positive and encouraging learning environment for all students.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with classroom teachers, the SENCo, and external professionals to support the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Progress Tracking: Monitor and report on student progress, contributing to reviews of IEPs and providing valuable feedback for teachers and parents.
  • Fostering Inclusion: Promote an inclusive atmosphere, encouraging students to engage fully with school life and develop their social and emotional skills.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children with SEN is highly desirable, either in a school or similar setting.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with students and colleagues.
  • Empathy and Patience: A compassionate, patient approach to supporting students with varying needs.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adjust support strategies based on the needs of individual students and the dynamics of the classroom.
  • Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure the best outcomes for students.
