About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEMH Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a vibrant and supportive SEMH School in Southend-on-Sea. This long-term role offers you the chance to work closely with young learners who require extra guidance and understanding to thrive both academically and emotionally.

Position: SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Location: Southend-on-Sea

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Long-term, full-time

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Education and training

Your Responsibilities

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to create a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual student needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of behaviour management plans, promoting positive choices and emotional resilience.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to deliver a tailored curriculum that inspires engagement and progress.
  • Help students develop key social skills and self-confidence, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Adapt learning materials and strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Support with emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and fostering a sense of achievement.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, ASD, or similar challenges.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Confidence in managing challenging behaviours with positivity and understanding.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications in education or child development.
  • Experience in an SEMH, PRU, or SEN setting.
  • Team Teach or equivalent behaviour management training (or willingness to undertake training).
