Our Client has a requirement for a Geotechnical Engineer, who will be required to work on a Staff or Contractor basis in Aberdeen.

Role Purpose:

  • Undertake a varied and challenging role within a diverse and collaborative environment.
  • Participate in tenders, studies, and execute stage projects within the SURF sector.
  • Work with the Specialist Technical Services team within the Central Engineering function.

Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Complete geotechnical engineering aspects for SURF scopes, collaborating with the wider team.
  • Evaluate the quality of available site investigation data for offshore energy projects and specify site investigations when required.
  • Interpret and use offshore site investigation data, integrating results into ground models and deriving parameters for detailed design of subsea infrastructure.
  • Undertake detailed design and installation of gravity-based, piled, and suction-installed foundations, and evaluate/recommend reeled-pipe-lay initiation anchorage.
  • Utilize limit analysis for estimating collapse loads for foundations subject to complex loading, using tools such as PLAXIS or OPTUM G3.
  • Perform geotechnical risk assessments and identify geo-hazards and ground risk levels.
  • Design, execute, and manage mechanical protection trenching and rock dumping scopes, and carry out seabed preparation analysis ahead of product/structure installation.
  • Participate in offshore assignments, supervising offshore site investigations, foundation installation, and mechanical protection of products, such as trenching and rock dumping works.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant subject such as Civil Engineering, Geoscience, or Geology, with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering (Master's level is advantageous).
  • Demonstrable role-relevant experience with a working understanding of offshore site investigations, foundation design, product/soil interaction, and product mechanical protection aspects.
  • Practical experience with GIS data systems, such as ArcGIS and ArcMAP, is beneficial but not essential.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; able to build and maintain positive internal/external collaborative relationships and provide mentorship.
  • Commercially aware with effective planning and organizing skills; capable of identifying and effectively prioritizing workload to meet competing deadlines.
  • Highly numerate with excellent analytical skills, with a focus on detail and accuracy.
  • Flexible to adapt to changing priorities within a fast-paced 24/7 global business environment.
  • Pro-active and solutions-based; skilled at understanding business and client needs to develop innovative "fit for purpose" solutions.
  • Committed to continuous improvement and identification of efficient work methods and processes.
  • Ability to undertake reasonable planned travel and offshore assignments as required.
