  • Location: Barnardo's Advocacy Service (Secure Estates) - HMYOI Wetherby

The ICRA service is child-led and independent of the secure estate; our service is delivered within Wetherby to ensure children can freely access support for a range of issues linked to their needs, rights & experiences of custody, resettlement, and safeguarding. As such this is a child-facing service, and at times involves lone working in the establishments, so we are seeking someone who can see the child, not the offence, who can hold children at the heart of all they do and be a voice for children.

What you'll do:


  • Provide child-led, independent advocacy and support for children in custody.
  • Address issues linked to their needs, rights, and experiences of custody, resettlement, and safeguarding.
  • Work autonomously in a highly structured, secure environment.

  • Experience in direct work supporting children exhibiting disaffection, complex needs, and challenging behaviours ( Social work, Youth York, etc)
  • Someone who sees the child, not the offence.
  • A proactive, resilient individual capable of lone working.
  • A strong advocate who can help children navigate challenges and understand their rights.
  • Required to complete Level 3 Advocacy Qualification (which will require a commitment of personal time).
