About the Role

Child Protection Social Worker required for Weymouth and Portland area. Must be able to work form the office at least 3 days per week. Experience in Court work, Child protection, Child in Need and Extra Familial Risk and Harm essential.

What is the day-to-day of the role:

  1. Morning Meetings: The day often starts with meetings, such as a core group meeting at a school to review the progress of a child protection plan. These meetings involve various professionals like school child protection officers, nurses, and mental health social workers
  2. Case Management: Throughout the day, social workers manage multiple cases. This can include new case allocations, ongoing investigations, and follow-ups. For example, they might conduct a joint investigation with police officers to address serious allegations like sexual abuse
  3. Home Visits and Assessments: Social workers frequently visit families and children in their homes to assess their living conditions and ensure the children's safety. They use these visits to build relationships and gather crucial information
  4. Crisis Intervention: Responding to emergencies is a significant part of the job. This could involve addressing situations where a child has left school due to an argument with a foster carer or dealing with immediate threats to a child's safety
  5. Paperwork and Reports: A substantial portion of the day is spent on documentation. Social workers need to write detailed reports, update case files, and prepare statements for court cases
  6. Collaboration and Support: They work closely with other professionals and agencies to provide comprehensive support to families. This includes coordinating with teachers, healthcare providers, and law enforcement
  7. Emotional Support: Providing emotional support to children and families is crucial. Social workers help them navigate their feelings and connect them with therapeutic services when needed
