We are recruiting for an Automotive Electronics Test Engineer on behalf of a globally recognised automotive client based in Cranfield. This is a long-term contract role with the potential to extend over several years.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support the Electrical & Electronic (EE) Test team with HILS (Hardware-In-The-Loop) and Labcar testing.
• Lead the development of HILS systems for Body Electronics and Powertrain systems.
• Manage HILS testing on the Electrical Integrated Platform, and support both test and design departments to resolve HILS model and testing issues.
• Act as the technical focal point for all HILS-related matters, liaising with Japanese counterparts for functional, performance, and reliability validation according to client design standards and regulatory requirements.
• Create test plans aligned with project and design milestones, including testing procedures, vehicle spec confirmation, and arrangement of test parts and vehicle transportation as required.
• Take on overall vehicle test technical coordination roles when necessary.
• Provide formal reporting of test results to design teams and upper management.
• Conduct root cause investigations and recommend countermeasures.
• Support field investigations on occasion.
• Develop HILS/Labcar system designs and integrate them into the vehicle environment.
• Commission and deploy HILS/Labcar systems, ensuring effective validation by other stakeholders.
• Prepare test/investigation reports, test plans, and test methods.
• Secure the quality of electrical systems according to client standards and complete validation for responsible commodities within project deadlines.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
• Strong understanding of electrical theory and electronic device operation.
• Experience with automotive ECU software applications in the manufacturing environment, including flashing, coding/configuration, and calibration.
• Ability to assess software risks and develop suitable test plans.
• Understanding of network communications and bus principles (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
• Proficiency in using D-Space, CANalyzer, CAPL, CANoe, CANape, Matlab, or similar tools for data capture, analysis, and test procedure execution.
• Ability to read system circuit diagrams and identify electrical connections.
• Practical experience with problem-solving tools and techniques.
• Familiarity with digital oscilloscopes and basic electrical test equipment.
• Relevant experience in automotive electrical/electronic system development, with involvement in at least two vehicle developments, or equivalent experience.
• Willingness to travel internationally, typically for a few days to two weeks, with the possibility of longer trips up to 10 weeks on rare occasions.
• Competent with PC applications, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Ability to prioritise and multitask across multiple projects simultaneously.
Hours & Pay:
• Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week.
• Hourly rate: £27.00.
