About the school

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistants to join our team in supporting students at a through school out in the Peaks. The school caters for students with SLD (SEND) significant learning disabilities, and has students from EYFS to KS4.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learning Support: Assist in the planning and delivery of personalised learning activities, adapting materials and teaching methods to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Behavioral Assistance: Support students in managing their behavior using positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques.
  • Personal Care: Provide assistance with personal care needs as required, ensuring the dignity and well-being of each student.
  • Classroom Support: Work alongside the class teacher to set up activities, prepare resources, and maintain an organised and supportive classroom environment.
  • Monitoring Progress: Observe and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents, and contributing to progress reports and meetings.
  • Inclusive Environment: Promote an inclusive atmosphere where all students feel valued and supported, encouraging social interaction and emotional well-being.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children with special educational needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, learning difficulties, and physical disabilities.
  • Patience and Empathy: A compassionate and patient demeanor, with the ability to respond calmly and effectively to challenging situations.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills, with the ability to connect with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility in adapting to different student needs, teaching styles, and classroom settings.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals.
  • Commitment to Safeguarding: A strong understanding of safeguarding policies and a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. Successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

  • Driving License: A valid driving license is preferred, as it may be necessary to travel between different school sites or for extracurricular activities.
