Lead Design / Development Engineer

We are seeking a Lead Design / Development Engineer with expertise in mechanical engineering. This role is crucial for the development and optimisation of innovative products for critical applications, ensuring they meet the high standards of performance, reliability, and safety required in the military and aerospace industries.

Day-to-day of the Lead Design / Development Engineer role:
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and guide best practices in mechanical design, material selection, and testing methods.
  • Lead design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams to tackle complex engineering challenges.
  • Oversee NPI gate stages from concept to manufacturing handover.
  • Ensure timely delivery of Engineering Revenue through effective project management.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of new products.
  • Develop marketing literature for new and existing products.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing job sheets, specifications, and documentation using ERP systems.
  • Handle product disposition, raise and approve concessions for non-conforming products/processes.
  • Maintain configuration control for drawings, manufacturing documentation, and ERP.
  • Lead technical discussions with customers, both internally and externally.
Required Skills & Qualifications of the Lead Design / Development Engineer:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, ideally with a focus on new product development, strong project management skills with proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Pro/Engineer) and FEA tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer focus, prioritising the needs and satisfaction of clients or stakeholders.
