Mechanical Field Service Engineers

Location: West Horndon, Essex, United Kingdom

Salary: 34,000 to 47,000 per annum

Permanent Position

The hiring company are currently seeking experienced, time-served Mechanical Fitters for Workshop and Field Service Engineer roles. Based at their West Horndon location, the position will involve working across a range of sites and installations throughout the UK, with a primary focus on the South East but not limited to this area.

Salary & Benefits:

* 34,000 to 47,000 per annum (inclusive of travel), depending on qualifications and experience.

* Annual bonuses - potential 1,600.

* Company van fully kitted out, plus fuel card.

* 40-hour week (Monday-Friday, during normal office hours).

Key Responsibilities:

* Perform mechanical maintenance and repair on rotating equipment, including pumps, turbines, valves, gearboxes, conveyors, and coolers.

* Carry out fault finding and diagnosis of mechanical equipment, primarily in the heavy engineering sectors, working on rotating machines, balance of plant (BOP), and auxiliary systems.


* Use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, dial test indicators (DTIs), and alignment tooling to assess equipment condition and ensure optimal performance.

* Undertake workshop and field service activities, including reporting findings, condition assessments, critical tolerances, actions taken, and recommendations.

* Work independently to identify and resolve mechanical faults, ensuring compliance with manufacturer standards and legislation.

* Lead and assist with planned projects and outages as required.

* Communicate clearly and effectively with peers and customers, both verbally and in writing.

* Manage your work schedule and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

Candidate Requirements:

* A full UK driving licence (preferably clean).

* Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.

* Strong fault finding, repair, installation, and commissioning experience.

* Excellent customer service skills.

* Good physical fitness due to the demands of the role.

* Ability to pass security clearances.

* Positive and flexible attitude, with a willingness to work out of hours and away from home when required.

* Relevant knowledge, training, and experience in heavy engineering sectors, particularly rotating equipment and mechanical maintenance.

* Mechanical time-served with qualifications such as ONC, HNC, NVQ, or equivalent in mechanical engineering.

* Experience with large turbines, pumps, and BFW multi-stage pumps, as well as auxiliary and BOP equipment such as gearboxes, coolers, and conveyors.


Desirable Skills & Experience:

* Previous experience in the power generation sector, particularly with prime movers and BOP.

* OEM experience with pumps and turbines.

* Strong background in rotating equipment maintenance.

* Good technical abilities, including measuring and reporting skills.
