About the position for Mechanical Engineer:

H & B Recruitment are working with a well-known client seeking experienced Mechanical Engineers to join their team as Workshop and Field Service Engineers. This permanent role is based at their Brentwood branch, with responsibilities covering various sites and installations across the UK, primarily in the southeast region.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing mechanical repairs and maintenance on rotating equipment, including large turbines and a range of pumps.
  • Conducting maintenance on auxiliary and balance of plant (BOP) equipment, such as gearboxes, coolers, conveyors, and valves.
  • Utilising measuring equipment like micrometers and alignment tooling.
  • Completing workshop and field service activities, including detailed reports on findings, condition assessments, and recommendations.
  • Communicating technical information effectively to peers and customers, both verbally and in writing.
  • Diagnosing mechanical equipment issues within the heavy engineering sectors.
  • Conducting defect repairs and routine maintenance on commercial and heavy industry machinery to meet manufacturer standards and legal requirements.
  • Identifying and resolving faults independently on mechanical systems.
  • Assisting and leading planned projects and outages as needed.
  • Managing work schedules efficiently.

What we need from you for Mechanical Engineer:

  • Mechanical qualifications, such as ONC & HNC, NVQ, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in fault finding, repair, installation, and commissioning.
  • Strong customer service skills and effective communication abilities, both verbally and in writing.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • A full, preferably clean, driving license is essential.
  • Ability to pass security clearances.
  • Relevant knowledge, training, and experience in heavy engineering sectors are critical.

Desirable and technical skills for Mechanical Engineer:

  • Experience in the power generation sector, particularly with prime movers and BOP.
  • OEM pump or turbine experience.
  • A strong background in rotating equipment.
  • Strong technical abilities, including measuring and reporting skills.
  • Good physical fitness due to the demands of the job.
  • A flexible and positive outlook.
  • Availability for callouts on a 1 in 5 basis.
  • Willingness to work away from home when necessary.
