Job Title: Health & Safety Officer

Reporting to: General Manager

Salary: 35,000 to 40,000 + 9% Annual Bonus

Location: Widnes

Purpose of the Role

The Safety Officer will report directly to the General Manager and play a key role in supporting the business to deliver profit safely. This role is central to helping the company not only meet its legal obligations but also foster a site culture built on trust, learning, and open reporting at every level.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure site compliance with all relevant Health & Safety legislation and corporate standards.

Partner with Supervisors and shop floor colleagues to provide expert guidance, coaching, and support on Health & Safety matters.

Drive continuous improvement by contributing to risk assessments, incident investigations, and legal compliance reviews.

Be an active and visible presence on site, contributing to daily and weekly processes that influence operational performance and safety.

Work closely with the General Manager and Production Manager to meet site targets for risk reduction, incident prevention, and safety culture enhancement.

Maintain site compliance with the Group Health and Safety Management System.

Support operational leaders in conducting effective investigations and in implementing sustainable corrective actions.

Play an integral role in change management initiatives, ensuring safety is embedded from start to finish.

Provide guidance and support to Supervisors and Managers in fulfilling their Health & Safety responsibilities.

Qualifications & Skills Required

NEBOSH qualification is essential.

Strong working knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation.

Engaging, team-oriented individual capable of influencing at all levels.

Proactive attitude and ability to accept and respond to challenges.

Strong judgment to know when to escalate issues and when to act independently.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
