Dot has been retained by a £15m turnover, family-owned engineering company based in Widnes. Due to a period of sustained growth, they are seeking a Qualified Finance Manager for a newly created role. This position reports directly to the Managing Director and includes responsibility for overseeing a team of 2 Accounts Assistants.
The Finance Manager will play a critical role in managing and overseeing the financial operations of the business. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for producing accurate financial reports, managing the finance team, and providing strategic financial insights to support decision-making and business performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation of monthly financial accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations including cash flow management, accounts payable, and receivable.
- Manage and develop a small team of two ledger clerks
- Provide analysis and recommendations on financial performance, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and internal controls.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Work closely with the MD to provide strategic insights into the company’s financial position.
- Manage VAT returns, CIS returns, payroll, and other statutory reporting requirements.
- Support the preparation of year-end accounts for auditors.
- Streamline and improve financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency.
Skills & Experience Required:
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified preferred, although qualified by experience may be considered.
- Strong experience in a similar finance role, ideally within a SME environment.
- Experience in managing a small finance team.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Good knowledge of accounting software (experience with Sage is desirable).
- A proactive, hands-on approach with a focus on improving financial processes.
- Knowledge of construction industry-specific finance practices is an advantage.
