Financial Controller/No 1 in Finance (SME)

Wigan

£65'000 - £70'000 + benefits

Looking for a fresh challenge? If you've been the go-to person in Finance within an SME, this could be the role for you! You'll be stepping in as the right-hand to the Finance Director, who's getting ready to pass the torch, giving you a chance to take the reins of a busy, fast-growing finance team. You'll be working closely with both the Managing Director and Operations Director, so you'll have a real say in shaping the future of the business. It's an exciting chance to help drive growth and take the finance/operations function to the next level!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take charge of the entire finance team, making sure systems, processes, and controls are running smoothly and efficiently.
  • You'll lead all things budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling, giving clear insights into how the business is performing and helping with key decisions.
  • Be the one who prepares and presents financial reports and analysis to the board.
  • Stay on top of cash flow, working capital, and financial risks to keep the company growing strong.
  • You'll be the main point of contact for external partners, keeping them in the loop with accurate, timely financial info and leading those meetings.
  • Look for ways to cut costs and boost profitability, implementing cost-control strategies where needed.
  • Take charge of the month-end process, and work with auditors for the quarterly and yearly statutory accounts.
  • Keep financial risks under control and roll out risk management plans.
  • Offer strategic financial advice to the exec team, helping them with decision-making and planning for the future.
  • You'll also dive into various ad-hoc projects as needed.

Key skills:

  • Experience within a No 1 in Finance role or looking to take that next step
  • SME experience - familiar with a small busy team where everyone mucks in together
  • ACCA/CIMA qualification would be a bonus

This opportunity suits a seasoned team leader who knows their stuff and isn't afraid to speak up when key decisions need addressing. With a small and supportive finance team reporting into you this is an opportunity to really make the role your own. This is predominantly office based but there could be flexibility to work from home in the near future with holidays that increase with service and pension scheme in place.

The client is looking to interview as soon as the beginning of October so reach out asap for further details.
