About the Role

Morson have partnered with a Manufacturing company based in Wigan, seeking a confident and experienced Financial Controller to join their Finance Function. This is a senior role that plays a crucial part in ensuring the financial stability and performance of our site.

Reporting directly to the Plant Director and working closely with the Regional Finance Director, you will be responsible for providing clear financial analysis and insight to drive strategic decision-making.

This position requires a proactive leader with strong analytical skills who can interpret financial data, analyse the P&L for the site, and communicate key insights to senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities of the Financial Controller:

  • Lead financial planning and analysis, ensuring accuracy and relevance of financial data for the site.
  • Prepare and monitor the site’s operating budget and provide variance analysis.
  • Control the Annual Investment Plan (AIP), conducting profitability studies for proposed investments.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor financial and operational success.
  • Analyse site P&L performance and provide monthly reports to the Regional Director and senior management team.
  • Ensure the accurate calculation of standard costs (hourly rates, raw materials, etc.) and update pricing/quotations accordingly.
  • Monitor and assess customer credit risk, making strategic recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with tax, labour, and accounting regulations, managing audits and company insurance policies.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, ensuring financial accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead cash flow forecasting and balance sheet management.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and drive process improvements across the site’s financial operations.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a similar Financial Controller or senior financial role within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong financial analysis skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and present it to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience with P&L management, budgeting, forecasting, and investment analysis.
  • Strong IT skills, including SAP and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
  • Experience managing or mentoring a small team is desirable.
