We are seeking a passionate and experienced school business manager to permanently join the team of this warm, welcoming and inclusive primary school based on the outskirts of Wigan. You will support the headteacher and governors in ensuring the smooth and successful running of the school and a positive learning journey for its pupils.

You will be responsible for the development and management of financial, administrative, health and safety and HR functions within the school, including management of staff.You will ideally have a relevant qualification in business management or equivalent experience in a similar role. You will also have excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills. You will have the ability to be friendly and approachable and work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including staff, parents, pupils, governors, and external agencies.

This is a permanent full-time position, term time only plus one week. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Alongside the Headteacher manage all aspects of the school budget.
  • Undertake all business and finance management transactions.
  • Provide full financial analysis on current and future variations in income, expenditure and trends.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the school's office and reporting systems.
  • Play an active role in the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and management for the office and finance staff.
  • Ensure all financial, administration and HR regulations and requirements are implemented and adhered to.
  • Provide sound and quality advice to Senior Leaders and the Governing Body regarding regulations, legislation and policies.
  • Effectively and proactively implement Health and Safety legislation and good practice for managed staff.
  • Coordinate staff cover arrangements, ensuring the best value.
  • Maintain the single central record in line with the HR policies.
  • Participate in staff review and development appraisal process.
  • Ensure the ICT systems which function effectively to enhance and support the teaching and learning of the school.
  • Promote the school's profile and reputation within the local community, supporting the Headteacher with business income generation from marketing the school.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience of contributing at a strategic level within the senior leadership team of an education business.
  • Previous line management experience.
  • Experience of working with complex databases, and the use of various financial and administrative packages.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing risk assessments and health and safety legislation.
  • Experience of managing budgets and resources.
  • Ability to develop and implement procedures and policies
  • The ability to lead and manage change alongside senior leaders of the school.
  • Flexibility and willingness to be adaptable.
  • CIPD or CSBM qualification is desirable.
