A fantastic secondary alternative provision in Hindley, Wigan, are seeking a dynamic and passionate SEMH experienced Teaching Assistant to join their team in January 2025, or as soon as possible...

The school require a teaching assistant to support students' learning from ages 11-16, and the ideal candidate will have experience supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH) in an alternative provision or PRU setting. The successful candidate will demonstrate resilience, patience and an ability to strike up rapport and develop relationships with SEMH pupils. Pupils arrive at the school having struggled to access learning in their previous school/s, and clear routines and therapies are implemented in school to help re-engage students with the education system. The personal relationships developed with pupils ensure that each one achieves their potential both academically and personally.

Rates of £88.90 - £97.60 per day are available, dependant upon experience and qualification. (Tradewind pay our teaching assistants directly via PAYE, and not through a third party umbrella company!!)

The school are looking to take someone on through an initial long term, temporary period, with a view to subsequently offering a permanent contract to the right candidate in 2025.

The school have a fantastic record of developing and up-skilling their staff internally, with a number of current teaching staff having started their career in school as a temporary teaching assistant. The role will involve supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural difficulties on a 1:1 and small group basis, assisting within lessons across the secondary curriculum, reinforcing positive behaviour management and ensuring pupils are engaged in learning.

To be successful in this Teaching Assistant role in Wigan, you will need to:

  • Have knowledge and understanding of working with SEN and challenging behaviour
  • Demonstrate a proven record of engaging all pupils and raising their attainment
  • Be subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure - or hold a DBS currently subscribed to DBS Update Service
  • Provide overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and undergo professional reference checks
  • Ensure your CV covers all employment and education since leaving secondary school
  • Have the legal right to work in the UK
