We provide the information needed to make positive choices about their futures.As a Children's Worker, you'll provide activities and support for children and young people across Wigan's domestic abuse safe accommodation, including core refuge, dispersed refuge, complex needs, and resettlement services. You'll work to improve parenting and parent-child relationships while ensuring the service is delivered to the highest standard.Key Tasks & Responsibilities:* Create a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for children and young people in refuge services.* Plan and deliver one-to-one and group play sessions to help children develop skills to process their experiences of domestic abuse.* Organise and lead play activities during school holidays and after school.* Provide fun and creative activities that nurture child and parent relationships.* Offer childcare to enable parents to attend support sessions and protect children.* Support positive parenting through parenting support and programmes.* Provide practical information about local services for children, such as schools, nurseries, and children's centres.* Work closely with Domestic Abuse Support Workers to maintain a multi-agency approach to safeguarding.* Undertake risk assessments for all activities to ensure health and safety requirements are met.* Report safeguarding concerns to the Team Lead and Designated Safeguarding Officer immediately.* Set up and maintain a library of child and parenting resources for families.* Support and supervise students or volunteers.Responsibilities Shared with All Staff:* Uphold our clients' values and principles, embedding empowerment, choice, strength, and change into your work.* Participate in regular supervision, annual appraisals, and identify job-related development and training needs.* Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to attend meetings, networks, and fund-raising events.* Commit to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.* Undertake any other duties appropriate to your role.Experience and Knowledge:* NNEB, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent qualification in childcare or related field.* Significant experience working with children and young people.* Experience organising and delivering play and other activities.* Knowledge of the dynamics and impact of domestic abuse.* Understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety requirements.* Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and internet use.* Effective record-keeping and organisational skills.* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.* Commitment to equal opportunities and confidentiality.* Experience delivering parenting support and programmes.* Experience working within the voluntary sector.Other Information:* DBS: Valid DBS check required.* Travel: Regular travel is required.
