Children's Social Worker / SGOTeam: Fostering Location: Wigan Rate: £35

We are looking for an experienced Social Worker to oversee SGO support and transition from connected carers to Special Guardianship. You will also hold a small caseload of kinship foster carers, providing supervision and support to them.

Brief over view of role and responsibilities:

To provide support and supervision to family and friends foster carers to assist them in providing excellent care to childrenTo assess and provide training/ development opportunities to kinship carersTo prepare high quality, accurate and thorough reports for a variety of purposes e.g. LADO consultations, planning meetings, children’s reviews, fostering and adoption panelsTo carry out an annual review of Foster familiesTo contribute to the development of the fostering serviceBe willing to work flexibly including evening work, when requiredBe placed on the SGO duty rota and respond to any emergenciesEnsure children in care are safeguarded and relevant procedures are followed if an allegation/ concern is raised against a foster carerEnsure that children’s care and development needs are met by their carersManage and appropriately prioritise tasks within an allocated workloadTo assess the need for resources to support a foster care in meeting the needs of any children placed including the identification of risk to children and young people, assess their need for protection, and determine the best method of intervention, ensuring that the Team Manager is consulted/advised throughout the case progression

You will be/have:

A qualified Social WorkerRegistered with Social Worker EnglandEnhanced DBS checkA proven social work background across children and families social workKnowledge of relevant Fostering Services legislation standards and regulationsExperience of working in a fostering team is idealA car owner / driverGood organisational and analytical skills

  • Competent IT skills and be able to navigate electronic file/recording systems.
  • Can write clear, concise, and robust assessment/reports/files.
