- You will ensure that Wigan Borough Council meets it statutory duty to safeguard children and Young Persons and that they remain safe, in accordance with the Safeguarding Children's Partnership /Board threshold document
- You will work within a multi-agency setting to undertake and/or facilitate decision-making as to the most appropriate response to a safeguarding concern for a child/ Young Person/family. You will ensure application of correct threshold when identifying levels of need.
- You will ensure multi-agency partnership working and decision making, while working collaboratively with families/YPs/ to keep the child in focus in safety planning whilst recognising family support networks) and that families have strengths, that there is an established shared decision making to keep children safe.
- You will provide day to day direction and coordination of staff working in the MAST.
- You will provide Management Oversight at screening and in Contact Records/Referrals whilst evidencing robust and safe decisions that are child focussed within strict deadlines.
- You will ensure social workers and partner agencies share information effectively and decide about the appropriate response to contacts and notifications received by the MAST. This include oversighting the quality and effectiveness of information shared, that there is professional and evidence- based judgement about the appropriate response to children whose needs require either Start Well (Early Help), Early Help or social work led assessment and or specialist support such a Targeted Disability Service, TYSS, or CE or CSE (Complex Safeguarding Team).
- You will ensure that the core functions of the MAST operate to a good quality and are effective in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and families that are resident in Wigan.
- You will ensure that staff and professionals are working with families and partner agencies in a strength and relationship-based practice framework.
- You will support MAST staff including Social Workers, CAROs, and Business Support Officers to provide an effective single point of contact to professionals seeking consultation and advice about how to respond to a child’s needs and circumstances. You will support staff and challenge other professionals about their Levels of Need, practice and decision making.
- You will, through case audits and escalations, support the Service Manager to evaluating the impact and effectiveness of the MAST in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, to reduce the need for statutory assessment and help. When delegated by the service manager you will deal with escalations, professional disputes and complaints.
