Are you a highly skilled and experienced Duty Social Worker looking for a challenging and rewarding role?
Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a dedicated and passionate Duty Social Worker to join our Children’s Services team. This role offers an opportunity to work on a variety of complex cases, making a significant impact on the lives of vulnerable children and families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to urgent referrals and safeguarding concerns.
- Conduct initial assessments and risk assessments.
- Make informed decisions about the level of intervention required.
- Work collaboratively with other professionals, including police, health, and education.
- Provide advice and guidance to colleagues on complex cases.
- Represent the local authority in court proceedings, as required.
- Promote a strengths-based approach, focusing on the resilience and capabilities of families.
Essential Requirements:
- Social Work qualification (Degree or equivalent)
- Registration with Social Work England
- Significant experience as a Duty Social Worker
- Strong assessment, planning, and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage complex caseloads
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience of working with a range of complex cases, including child protection, child in need, and looked after children.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance.
- Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing priorities.
