Safeguarding Social Worker - Wigan Council - Up to £38 per hour

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in safeguarding children and promoting their well-being within the Wigan community. You will be working on complex cases, providing crucial support and intervention to families facing a range of challenges.

About the Role:

As a Safeguarding Social Worker, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing a complex caseload: Working with children and families experiencing a range of safeguarding issues, including child protection concerns, neglect, and family dysfunction.
  • Conducting Assessments: Carrying out thorough assessments, including Section 47 investigations, to determine the level of risk and need for intervention.
  • Developing and Implementing Plans: Creating and implementing Child Protection Plans, Child in Need Plans, and other relevant interventions to safeguard children and support families.
  • Court Work: Preparing court reports, attending court hearings, and representing the Local Authority's interests in care proceedings.
  • Risk Assessment and Management: Identifying and assessing risk factors, developing safety plans, and implementing appropriate interventions to mitigate risks.
  • Direct Work with Families: Engaging with children and families, building rapport, and providing support, advice, and guidance.
  • Multi-Agency Collaboration: Working in partnership with a range of agencies, including health, education, police, and voluntary organisations, to provide holistic support to families.
  • Statutory Compliance: Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintaining Accurate Records: Maintaining comprehensive and accurate case records, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.

About You:

  • Essential: A qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Essential: Significant experience of working within a safeguarding role, including conducting Section 47 investigations and court work.
  • Essential: A strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and related guidance.
  • Essential: Excellent assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Essential: Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
