They cater for students that have been excluded or permanently excluded from mainstream schooling. They are fully committed to providing exceptional support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and adverse behavioural difficulties. Their goal is to create a nurturing and supportive environment where every student can thrive and access education in a way that suits them.Role Overview:We are seeking a passionate and dynamic SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team. You will need to have experience supporting SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis. In this role, you will work 1:1 with a year 10 student who has SEMH needs. They have an EHCP so experience of working to this is essential.The ideal candidate would be a strong communicator with a stern but fair approach. You will be required to help set the student up prior to lessons starting, as well as providing vital classroom support with their academic studies. You will be required to provide support both inside and outside the classroom to encourage both their academic development as well as their social and emotional development. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to a student with SEMH needs and behavioural difficulties.
  • Strong ability to understand and work towards EHCPs.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs).
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to support student progress.
  • Provide a firm but fair face to support academic and social development.
  • Use creative approaches to help engage students.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and behaviour.
  • Assist the class teacher with setting up for lessons and preparing any resources as and when necessary.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Strong experience as a teaching assistant, preferably within a SEN setting.
  • Experience supporting students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour is essential.
  • Teaching assistant or SEN qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with SEN.
  • A strong presence in the classroom is essential.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
