Are you a dynamic and strategic Design Director ready to take the lead in an innovative, fast-growing modular construction business? We’re working with a forward-thinking offsite construction company looking for a talented Design Director to head up their multi-disciplinary technical, design, planning, and engineering teams.

This is a senior leadership role working closely with the Executive Team to deliver technically outstanding, sustainable, and efficient offsite construction solutions across residential, education and defence projects.

The Role of the Design Director

As Design Director, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the technical future of the business. You’ll lead cross-functional teams to deliver coordinated designs that meet project scopes, budgets and timelines. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will also contribute to corporate strategy and company-wide performance.

Responsibilities of the Design Director

  • Leading and managing Technical, Design, Planning and Engineering functions.
  • Driving design compliance, innovation and excellence from land acquisition through to site completion.
  • Overseeing design risk management, statutory approvals and technical outputs.
  • Acting as Principal Designer under CDM regulations.
  • Championing best practice and continuous improvement across design and construction processes.
  • Collaborating with internal directors, clients, suppliers and sub-contractors.

Skills/experience of the Design Director

  • Experience in residential, education and defence sectors.
  • Proven leadership of technical/design teams in a construction or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of MMC, light gauge steel frame and volumetric design principles.
  • Understanding of Building Regs, CDM, NHBC, BOPAS, BREEAM, fire strategy, acoustics, M&E and SAP.
  • Experienced in AutoCAD, Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud (e.g., BIM 360, Autodesk Docs).
  • Collaborative and strategic thinker with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent (HNC/HND considered).
  • Chartered status (RIBA, MEng, RICS, etc.).
