We are seeking an experienced Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) specialising in private client tax to join our tax team. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, and estates, delivering bespoke tax advice and compliance services. You will play a key role in advising on personal tax, estate planning, inheritance tax, and capital gains tax matters, ensuring that clients' tax affairs are managed efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Tax Advisory:

    • Provide high-quality tax advice to private clients, including high-net-worth individuals, families, and trusts, on income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, and other personal tax matters.
    • Advise on complex tax issues such as non-domicile tax matters, residence status, and the taxation of offshore assets and trusts.
    • Develop tax planning strategies for succession planning, inheritance tax mitigation, and capital gains tax management.
  • Tax Compliance:

    • Manage the preparation and submission of personal tax returns for a portfolio of clients, ensuring compliance with UK tax legislation and deadlines.
    • Review tax returns prepared by junior team members, providing feedback and ensuring accuracy.
    • Handle tax compliance for trusts and estates, including inheritance tax reporting and capital gains tax calculations.
  • Client Management:

    • Act as the main point of contact for a portfolio of private clients, building strong relationships and providing a proactive and responsive service.
    • Conduct regular reviews of clients' tax positions, identifying risks and opportunities for tax mitigation.
    • Liaise with clients to gather required information, explain complex tax matters, and provide tailored advice that aligns with their personal and financial objectives.
  • Estate and Succession Planning:

    • Provide expert advice on estate planning, including the use of wills, trusts, and family investment companies to structure clients' affairs tax efficiently.
    • Advise on the taxation of gifts and lifetime transfers, including the use of exemptions and reliefs to mitigate inheritance tax liabilities.
    • Work with legal advisors and financial planners to deliver integrated solutions for clients' long-term wealth planning.
  • Tax Disputes and Investigations:

    • Assist clients with tax disputes, inquiries, and investigations, liaising with HMRC on their behalf to resolve issues.
    • Provide support during HMRC compliance checks, including voluntary disclosures, tax relief claims, and dispute resolution.
  • Collaboration and Business Development:

    • Collaborate with other departments (such as legal, financial planning, and corporate tax teams) to provide comprehensive tax solutions for clients.
    • Support senior team members in developing new business opportunities, participating in client pitches and proposals, and contributing to the firm's growth initiatives.
    • Attend client meetings and represent the firm at networking events and seminars.
  • Technical Knowledge:

    • Keep up-to-date with changes in tax legislation, particularly those impacting private clients, trusts, and estates.
    • Share knowledge and expertise within the team, helping to develop junior staff and ensuring technical accuracy in all client deliverables.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Education:

    • Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) qualification is highly desired.
  • Experience:

    • 3+ years of experience in personal tax, ideally in a private client tax role within an accountancy firm or specialist tax consultancy.
    • Proven experience advising high-net-worth individuals, families, and trusts on a broad range of tax matters.
    • Strong knowledge of UK tax laws, including inheritance tax, capital gains tax, and income tax.
