Location: Winchester (2 days a week plus site visits)
Hourly Rate: 45-50ph
Duration: Rolling 6 months

Role Summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for finalising detailed design drawings and preparing PCI documentation for the Towns Fund project. This project includes footway widening, the installation of a new puffin crossing, and side road entry treatments. Construction is scheduled to commence in mid to late April. Following this, the candidate will oversee the construction phase, addressing any design queries that arise, and agreeing CE's.

As a Senior Engineer specialising in Structures, you will assist in the collection, assessment, and impartation of information essential to successful scheme preparation and implementation processes. Based in Winchester, you will prepare technical design and contract documents, liaise with relevant bodies, and ensure adherence to health and safety standards.
Responsibilities:

  • Qualified to Degree level and have proven experience in the design, management and supervision of Traffic and Road Safety highway improvement schemes and Highway engineering projects.
    As part of this role, the candidate should expect to carry out work within the following areas:
  • Assist the Project Manager in delivering highway and road safety engineering projects from inception to completion.
  • Undertake engineering tasks including feasibility studies, appraisals, detailed design, construction management, cost control, and project management.
  • Use technical knowledge to assess project parameters, develop solutions, and meet client expectations. Present work through reports, drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Develop cost-effective design solutions using industry-standard software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and specifications.
  • Procure contractor services via BCP's frameworks and NEC contracts. Monitor project progress against programme, quality, and budget.
  • Provide technical advice to clients and colleagues, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure efficient design and construction phases.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, health and safety legislation, CDM regulations, Freedom of Information, and Data Protection laws.
  • Oversee construction works to ensure contract compliance, issue instructions, resolve site issues, and manage construction costs.
  • BSC (Hons) Degree in Civil Engineering or related experience
  • Valid UK driving licence (for site visits).
  • Experience in all stages of design and construction of civil engineering projects
  • Proficiency in using AutoCAD & Civil 3D for design and modelling.
  • Knowledge of relevant design standards, regulations, and specifications, including: DMRB (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges), TSRGD (Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions), Manual for Streets and CDM Regulations (Construction, Design & Management).
  • Experience and knowledge of highway contracts, specifications, method of measurement, item coverage and pricing schedules relating to highway projects and schemes.
  • Understanding of NEC4 contracts, public sector frameworks, specifications and methods of measurement.

Decision Making Areas:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and supervise design work of other team members.
  • Knowledge of duties under CDM 2015 Regulations.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid working (home and office), with infrequent visits to live sites.
  • Effective communication with stakeholders in challenging environments.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with the role.
