Your new companyA local authority in the South of England responsible for around 1.4 million people.Your new roleStarting ASAP and finishing earliest September 2025 with a possibility of extension. 5-15 hours p/week on a hybrid basis.
- Manage the field survey and site monitoring programme to meet the needs of the County Council, District Councils, government agencies and other partners as part of their service level agreements, and non-partners on a consultancy basis.
- Assist landowners to gain up-to-date survey information to support applications for agri-environment grant schemes.
- Supervise the Field Ecologists' workloads.
- Respond to enquiries for biological data from the County Council, other partner organisations, consultants, members of the public etc.
- Update the habitat mapping and other boundary data on the Council's GIS database.
- Assist in the development of databases for specific sets of information and liaise with other organisations to achieve this.
- Monitor developments to ensure compliance with ecological conditions and obligations.
- Advise and influence colleagues and organisations, internally and externally to ensure the council's duties with respect to national standards and corporate objectives are met.
- Assist in the identification and review of Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation and the provision of supporting statements.
- To remain continually up to date with all relevant legislation, appropriate guidance, national standards and policies and other good practice relating to SuDs, sustainable development and biodiversity and green infrastructure
What you'll need to succeed
- Degree level qualification in a relevant environmental discipline
- Preferably a full member of CIEEM, CIWEM or eligible for full membership
- Good understanding of the principles and application of planning policies and environmental legislation.
- Good written and verbal communication skills (including report writing).
- Hold appropriate European species licences; Badger, Dormouse for e.g.
- HRA/BNG (especially HMMP) experience.
