CMA Executive is thrilled to be retained by this privately-owned, award-winning business with a turnover of approximately £70 million and a rich heritage spanning over 50 years. Based in North Hampshire, this highly successful and forward-thinking independent contracting group provides a wide range of services, including groundworks, civil engineering, construction, training, and plant hire. The company has achieved substantial growth over the years, both organically and through strategic acquisitions, seizing opportunities as they arise in the market.

As they set ambitious plans to reach £100 million in turnover, the business is seeking a commercially focused Finance Director to partner with the Managing Director, bringing a collaborative, “can-do” attitude to drive continued success.

What will the Finance Director role involve?

  • Partnering with the Managing Director to monitor and develop the Business Plan and drive growth and performance of the business. Developing long term strategic plans and ensuring funding requirements are forecast and managed appropriately to achieve the plans set.
  • In conjunction with Senior Management, drive improvements to financial reporting across the Company to improve the visibility, integrity and analysis of key data, giving a clear overview of business performance and liabilities fuelling commercial decision making and strategic planning discussions.
  • The production of strategic financial analysis and recommendations on ways to reduce costs, increase profits and generate shareholder value.
  • Develop close work relationships with Heads of Departments to improve job costing/budgets, sales pricing, accuracy of forecasts and WIP management.
  • Managing & developing robust financial systems and controls throughout the business.
  • Overall responsibility for the production end of year accounts and leading communications with external advisors with regards to audit, tax and ensuring compliance with all the reporting to relevant authorities.
  • Developing and leading a fully functional and visible Finance team.

Suitable Candidate for the Finance Director vacancy:

  • Strong relationship builder, able to develop a close working relationship acting as a commercial foil to the MD and Senior Management.
  • First rate commercial awareness and robust cost control ability. Ideally gained within a similarly diverse contracting business.
  • Track record of focusing on profit maximisation and driving long term shareholder value.
  • A clear strategic thinker, with demonstrable success developing and delivering operational strategies to achieve commercial objectives.
  • Focus on attention to detail – continuously monitor day to day financial matters and performance, spotting issues and finding solutions.
  • Team Builder – ability to manager and develop a high performing finance function.
  • Working with others – proactive and energetic, with the appetite to be hands on in an entrepreneurial environment and giving credibility to build strong working relationships across the business.
  • A qualified accountant, with excellent financial acumen and with a strong work ethic and personal motivations aligned with the goals of the business and the existing senior management team.
