About the Role

Working within the Transport Commissioning team of the School Transport service to ensure that eligible students access suitable school transport effectively in a fast- paced environment.

Liaising with key stakeholders, schools, parents and transport operators to resolve day to day operational issues.

Support the Transport Commissioner with commissioning school transport for Mainstream, SEN, Post-16 and EIS/Social Care using route planning software.

Role Responsibilities

Assistant Transport Commissioner

  • Responsible for ensuring decisions as well as child, operator and Passenger Assistant records are updated in a timely and accurate manner in agreed systems (including Capita One and Passenger Assistant database) so that others in the team can quickly and easily identify progress and status.
  • Accountable for ensuring high standard of customer care are always delivered.
  • Expected to support the use, maintenance and embedding of route planning software into transport planning approaches.
  • Responsible for working with others in the service to ensure that effective use is made of technology to proactively communicate with families.
  • Maintenance of effective working relationships with other parts of the Service and with families and schools.
  • Responsible for resolving day to day operational issues that arise in the delivery of School Transport Services.
  • Acting as an escalation point for operational issues from the triage team.
  • Responsible for transport commissioning for mainstream, SEN, post 16 and social care children in accordance with the relevant policies.
  • Under the direction of the Operations Manager, responsible for the sourcing of transport arrangements - single routes, emergency routes/temporary routes.
  • Accountable to work to Standard Operating Procedures as identified by the School Transport management team.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: Essential:

  • Extensive relevant experience in the application of administrative systems and procedures
  • Computer literacy with experience of using a variety of software for data management and transmission, especially the Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience of working in a customer-focused environment
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience of negotiation with other professionals
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management skills
  • Flexible and adaptable approach
  • Ability to work well under sustained pressure
  • Ability to work closely as a member of a team Desirable:
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience within the school transport field ï‚· Understanding of SEN/Social Care
