A Global Blue chip company are looking for a unique individual to drive their existing ESG strategy with UK Retailers. In this pivotal role, you will further develop and deliver their retailer-facing ESG strategy, ensuring alignment with retailer ESG targets and company capabilities. You will ensure compliance with UK ethical standards and drive ESG reporting tailored to retailer specifications, down to farm level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the company’s’ retailer-facing ESG strategy.
  • Represent the company on trade bodies such as Fresh Produce Consortium and FNET.
  • Attend retailer conferences and meetings to align ESG strategy and address new requests efficiently.
  • Ensure up-to-date compliance for retailers, reporting on ethical audits, human rights, and environmental due diligence across supply chains.
  • Maintain and report relevant data on retailer grower lists and monitor ESG metrics.
  • Focus, monitor, and report on retailer projects related to social and environmental issues.
  • Set up and discuss retailer reporting for GHG, Living Wage, Fairtrade, and Rainforest premium use, coordinating with sustainability and supply teams.
  • Assist in monitoring and closing the Living Wage gap, providing quarterly and annual reports.
  • Manage annual labour supplier audits for compliance with labour standards.
  • Present up-to-date ESG data and reports to retailers and internally, tailored to retailer sources.
  • Scan for new ideas to improve ESG strategy and lead best-in-class practices.
  • Maintain and update Company ESG and certification policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the company Sustainability Team to shape future sustainability goals.
  • Align retailer ESG targets with company capabilities, tracking and reporting progress regularly.
  • Maintain compliance with UK ethical standards (Smeta, BRC, Stronger Together, etc.).
  • Drive ESG reporting specific to each retailer, ensuring farm-level certification alignment.
  • Build and nurture relationships with retailer ESG departments, establishing your company as their trusted partner and expert.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Extensive knowledge of ESG principles and retailer-specific ESG strategies.
  • Experience of UK compliance and ethical standards (Smeta, BRC, Stronger Together).
  • Excellent data tracking and reporting skills.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, particularly with retailer ESG departments.
  • Proven ability to align organizational capabilities with external ESG targets.
  • Current role may be in a FMCG or Retail Organisation
  • Fresh Produce experience - advantageous
