About the Role

Connect2Hampshire are currently recruiting for a Senior HR Adviser to work at Hampshire County Councils Employee Relations team based in Winchester, Hampshire.

We are seeking a Senior HR Adviser to coach and empower managers throughout the organisation. The ideal candidate must have substantial experience in handling employee relations casework and possess a pragmatic approach to problem-solving, risk identification, and providing recommendations. A strong foundation in employment law and best practices is essential. Additionally, the candidate must be an effective communicator, capable of quickly building rapport, advising, influencing, and critically challenging when necessary.

What is the day-to-day of the role:

  • You will provide comprehensive support, advice, and coaching to customers on employment-related issues. This includes managing individual casework and helping resolve matters such as disciplinary actions, grievances, capability issues, ill health, and redundancies. Your aim is to ensure that employment decisions are fair, considerate of both the organisation's and the employee's needs, and compliant with legal requirements and best practices. Additionally, you offer advice in an environment where managers have significant employment responsibilities
  • You will educate and provide advice and development to managers on the implementation of relevant HR initiatives and projects. This includes addressing human resource issues, employment law, and aligning with our values, policies, and practices.
  • Act as an adviser at hearings, offering sound advice to help panels make well-informed decisions. Ensure these decisions align with good employment practices and legislative requirements, while considering "local management" statutory powers.
  • Persuade and influence managers to adopt courses of action regarding people issues that align with good employment practices. Ensure these actions consider the needs of both the organisation and the employees, while minimising employee relations difficulties and potential Employment Tribunal claims.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • CIPD qualified or substantial relevant experience
  • Successful experience in managing and implementing medium sized, ranging in
  • Complexity projects to meet organisational requirements
  • Successful experience in developing productive relationships with staff and managers
  • Good all-round knowledge of employment practice, resourcing, development and/or
  • Performance management
  • Able to identify and recommend innovative solutions consistent with best practice
  • Able to provide sound guidance to line managers and employees on legislation, best
  • Practice and interpretation of policies and terms and conditions
  • IT literate, familiar with products used in the organisation
  • Able to initiate policy development in response to Departmental business needs
  • Good communication skills both written and oral and good level of interpersonal skills
