Purpose of the Role:

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing mechanical systems and solutions for projects in the nuclear or other regulated industries. The role involves overseeing the design process, producing technical documentation, and ensuring designs meet all required standards for functionality, quality, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development:
    • Lead the development of engineering concepts and solutions, ensuring they align with project goals and compliance standards.
    • Use SolidWorks and other 3D CAD software to create detailed designs and models.
    • Ensure all mechanical designs are manufacturable and meet functional requirements.
    • Produce technical drawings, calculations, and other engineering documents.
  • Project Oversight:
    • Take ownership of small to medium engineering projects and support larger, cross-functional projects.
    • Coordinate with other teams to ensure designs integrate with overall project objectives.
    • Validate and substantiate design outputs, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
    • Assist in the testing, draughting, and evaluation of prototypes and products.
  • Collaboration and Reporting:
    • Communicate design progress, challenges, and recommendations to the Engineering Manager and other key stakeholders.
    • Provide technical support to the manufacturing and quality teams.
    • Issue and manage engineering documents as needed, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify and contribute to process improvements to enhance design efficiency and quality.
    • Work in compliance with 5S principles to ensure a clean and organized working environment.
    • Actively contribute to reducing waste and optimizing engineering processes.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (HNC/HND with significant relevant experience will also be considered)
  • Minimum 4+ years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within the nuclear or other regulated industries.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and 3D CAD design tools.
  • Deep understanding of international engineering standards and best practices.
  • Experience in producing engineering documentation such as calculations, drawings, and reports.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and engineering calculation abilities.
