About the SEMH Teaching Assistant Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will be a vital part of our classroom team, providing support to primary school children experiencing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. You will work closely with teachers and other support staff to help create a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child feels valued, safe, and supported.

Key Responsibilities of a SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Support Children's Mental Health: Work with students individually and in small groups to help them manage their emotions, build resilience, and develop coping strategies.
  • Classroom Assistance: Provide general classroom support to ensure an inclusive and positive learning environment for all students.
  • Collaborative Approach: Work alongside teachers and SENCo to tailor learning strategies and activities to the specific needs of children with SEMH difficulties.
  • Promote Well-being: Foster a positive, supportive atmosphere that encourages children to express their feelings and engage with their learning.

About You as a SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Empathy & Patience: You'll bring a compassionate, calm, and non-judgmental approach to your work.
  • Experience with SEMH or Mental Health Support: Ideally, you'll have experience working with children facing emotional or mental health difficulties. However, training and support will be provided to the right candidate.
  • Positive Attitude: A genuine desire to help children achieve their best, regardless of the challenges they may face.
  • Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to create the best learning environment possible.
