REDS Recovery College Bank Peer Trainer - Essex

St Andrew’s Healthcare is a charity providing specialist mental healthcare services. We work in partnership with a number of NHS, educational, research and voluntary organisations to deliver a range of specialist inpatient and community mental healthcare services, alongside education and research that help to improve the lives of people with complex mental health needs a learning disability or autism.

Our REDS (Recovery and Every Day Skills) Recovery College, offers recovery-focussed educational courses and workshops to patients, carers and staff which help build hope and improve wellbeing. The courses are designed and delivered in partnership with people with professional and lived experience of mental illness.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated team player, that can also work comfortably on their own, to promote, co-design and co-deliver courses focussing on recovery and every day skills.

This opportunity is to work as part of our flexible workforce via a bank contract.

The role

In this exciting role you will have the opportunity to use your lived experience of mental health challenges to support REDS Recovery College learners (patients, staff and carers) in their journeys towards living a more hopeful and fulfilled life.

Working within a small team of Recovery College Trainers, you will have an important role working with current patients and staff at St Andrew’s Healthcare to help design and deliver training programmes to small groups of patients, staff and carers.

An essential part of your role will be building working relationships with patients, carers and staff and will involve you sharing information on your personal journey of recovery from mental health challenges.

Throughout this you will receive ongoing support from within the team and training in how to deliver courses.

About you

Your compassion, care and understanding attitude are needed to build working relationships with our patients. You will have had experience sharing your personal recovery journey with peers, or are at least confident in doing so.

You will have good communication and people skills and the confidence to speak in front of groups of people. Your enthusiasm will inspire others to want to engage with our training programmes. You will be a good team player, but are also comfortable using your own initiative.

You will be excited by the opportunity to develop a service that makes a genuine difference to people’s lives. Experience in secure/forensic mental health services preferred.
