Freelance SolidWorks Designer IR35 Status: OutContract Term - Ad hoc Hourly - Circa £35 DOE Location - Essex, Remote or Hybrid We're excited to support a creative construction company specialising in the design and build of live event environments, interiors, and luxury retail spaces.With organic growth and increasing demand, they are now seeking a Freelance SolidWorks Designer to provide ad hoc support. To be successful, you will need to supply your own CAD-capable hardware, a SolidWorks license (v22/v24), and have relevant professional industry experience in live events or set/stage design.Responsibilities, but are not limited to

  • Technical Drawing & Drafting: Produce precise technical drawings and plans using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Vectorworks) based on initial creative concepts
  • 3D Modelling: Create 3D models of set designs to visualize spatial layouts, material use, and structural considerations
  • Material & Structural Planning: Assist in selecting materials, structural supports, and production methods to ensure designs are both safe and cost-effective
  • Collaboration: Work closely with designers, project managers, and production staff to align technical aspects with the creative vision and project timelines
  • Documentation: Maintain clear records and documentation for all projects, including revisions, measurements, and material specifications
  • Quality Control: Review design outputs to ensure they meet quality and safety standards, as well as the creative brief

Experiences required

  • Professional background in set design or similar areas such as theatre, film, television, or live events
  • Competent 3D modelling using SolidWorks
  • Proficient in creating detailed technical drawings for manufacture/assembly (DFMA)
  • Must provide own CAD-capable hardware
  • Must provide own SolidWorks v22/24 license
